Wedding Updates

January 20

Hello friends and family!

Happy New Year! We wanted to provide an update that we're planning to postpone our wedding one more time - likely to late August. As soon as we feel good about locking in a date, we'll finalize the details and send new invitations in the mail.

We hope you all had bright start to 2021!

Hello friends and family!

Save the date for Monday, May 10, 2021! We're confirmed for our ceremony on the Royal Hawaiian's Ocean Lawn at 3:30 PM. We have our fingers crossed the luau will return in time for our reception but have a beautiful back-up space reserved at Azure 210 which is located right on property.

We will look forward to finalizing the details and collecting new RSVPs in early 2021.

We can't wait to celebrate with you!

Hello friends and family!

We have made the decision to postpone our wedding to Spring 2021. We’re still working with the venue to finalize a new date, but we’re hoping for sometime between mid-April and mid-May. We will let you know the new date as soon as we’re confirmed!

The decision to postpone again wasn’t easy, but we feel we’re making the best decision given the risks and concerns we continue to have:

- Health and safety: We want the focus of our big day to be celebrating with family and friends, not whether we’re unnecessarily putting anyone at risk.

- Ability to travel: The governor of Hawaii has released travel guidance for the month of August. The gist: tourism will be allowed to resume on August 1 with a pre-arrival COVID-19 test required within 72 hours of travel. Placing the fate of our trip (and yours!) in the hands of COVID test results is a bit more stress than we want in the week leading up to the big day.

- Fun factor: After speaking with our event manager at the Royal Hawaiian, it’s clear the reopening of Hawaii will be slow and measured. It’s likely several tourist attractions and services will still be closed in August—including the Royal Hawaiian’s luau which we were looking forward to as part of our wedding day! We’re willing to wait to make sure we all get the tropical vacation we envisioned.

We look forward to sharing our new date soon, and we will plan to collect RSVPs again in January. In the meantime, we hope you’re staying well!

The third date’s the charm!

Hello friends and family!

Doug and I hope you’re staying well during these extraordinary times. Over the last few months, we tried many new recipes (crab nachos weren’t too bad), we learned how to be co-workers (by jamming two desks in a 9x9 ft office), we watched our way through must-see movies and TV (we recommend HBO’s Big Little Lies), and of course we followed the news in Hawaii closely. It’s about 80 days away from our rescheduled wedding date, so we wanted to provide an update on how we’re thinking about the big day.

The governor of Hawaii recently extended the mandatory 14-day quarantine for Hawaii visitors through July 31 which is closer to our wedding date than we had hoped. At this time, we do not know whether the quarantine will be lifted after July 31 or if it will be extended further. We sure do wish we had a crystal ball right about now.

Based on the information we have today, our plan is to continue monitoring the news in Hawaii and follow local health guidance as soon as it’s provided for the month of August. We anticipate making our go / no-go decision in early July. Once we make a call, we will either a) collect new RSVPs for August 31 or b) share a new wedding date.

Either way, we can’t wait to celebrate with each of you, and we’re still planning for a Hawaii wedding, whenever it may be. We understand the uncertainty makes it difficult to plan your tropical getaway, and we are grateful for your compassion and flexibility. We're counting down the days until we can spend time together, toast mai tais, and soak up the sun safely.

We will keep you updated if/when things change along the way. More to come in July!

Cheers to love (and Hawaii)!

Britt & Doug
